Labor Day weekend is about to start and so is school. Here in Boston, today is moving-in-day for most of the colleges — and the Horn Book office sits right in the middle of five: Simmons, MassArt, Wentworth, Emmanuel, and Wheelock.
The Horn Book editors once again put together a great list of Back to School books for our Horn Book Herald newsletter. You can access all four articles from it
here. There's an interview and three booklists, each for a different age range. If you haven't seen it yet, that means you don't subscribe to our free newsletters. They're a great way to keep on top of what's new and notable.

At this blog, school is about to start, too. Students at Harvard Graduate School of Education moved in a week ago and enrollments have just about settled into a final state. This year I'll have 37 enrolled and at least 5 auditing. As always, it's a diverse group (except there are only six men) with some intriguing cross registerees from the Kennedy School of Government and the Chan School of Public Health. I also love seeing students from other HGSE programs sign up, especially those who hope to become school principals or work in government and influence future ed policy.
You will hear from all of these students as they comment on our readings this semester. We would love to get comments from all of you lurkers, too. Our first class is next Wednesday, September 6, and students are not required to comment on books for the first class, though some will. Things will start up for real with the second class on September 20. We're meeting every other Wednesday this year.
So happy reading, and please join our conversations.
