May 7-11 is National Teacher Appreciation Week, and today is
National Teacher Day, a day on which the National Education Association hopes we will all go out of our way to #
ThankATeacher. We are both the parents of two elementary-school-aged children, and we send HUGE thank yous to the teachers, specialists, paraprofessionals, administrators, chefs, custodians, afterschool staff, and many others who keep our kids engaged and safe every day of every week.

Last year we lost beloved Friend of the Horn Book and #TeacherWithSuperpowers
Robin Smith, the second-grade teacher we all wish we could have. Here is a piece she wrote in 2008 about the teachers, from children's books, who inspired
her: "
Teachers I Remember."

And don't forget to #ThankATeacher!
