NF Notes: The 2013 Boston Globe-Horn Book Nonfiction Award Winners

Every fall, we give out the Boston Globe–Horn Book Awards for excellence in children’s literature. To honor the tradition, this issue of Nonfiction Notes from the Horn Book includes reviews of all three 2013 nonfiction award recipients — winner Electric Ben: The Amazing Life and Times of Benjamin Franklin by Robert Byrd and honor books Dreaming Up: A Celebration of Building by Christy Hale and Hand in Hand: Ten Black Men Who Changed America by Andrea Davis Pinkney, illustrated by Brian Pinkney. We’ll be celebrating these and the other 2013 winners at the Boston Globe–Horn Book award ceremony on Friday night, October 4th, and at the fourth annual Horn Book at Simmons Colloquium on October 5th, both at Simmons College. Registration is still open for HBAS, which includes admission to the award ceremony and reception. Please join us for what is sure to be a fantastic weekend.
