On Naomi Shihab Nye's "Delicious rhythms" (from March 1997)

national-poetry-month_inspirational-quote_typewriter-poetry_facebook_08Happy New Year! The first morning back to school after winter break was a hard one in our house. No one, including the grownups, wanted to get out of bed, accustomed as we've all been to staying up late and sleeping in. Day two (today) was worse. I don't like making New Year's resolutions, but I just might try one this year. I'd like to channel author and poet Naomi Shihab Nye and her wake-up-the-kid ritual, which she describes in "Delicious rhythms," a short piece she contributed to the Magazine's March/April 1997 special issue on Family Reading.

And who better to start with than the poet herself? This is one of my favorites.
