Elissa, can you tell us where this drawing came from and how Horn Book happened to find it? I thought it might be a rejected drawing from her book, but those were all black and white. Was this originally attended as a spot illustration for the dust jacket? Or was there a plan for a picture book on tomato sandwiches? Regardless, Jack Gantos is ready to write Ode to the Tomato Sandwich. I would love to see what other art exists in Laura Morehead's possession.Posted : Jun 18, 2014 03:51

You have to have the lettuce just to satisfy the palette and the palate.. Red is always looking to pair up with green, and note all the yellow in the crust--yellow loves both red and green. Plus the texture contrast--the ruffled green vs the straight lines of the flat bread. Very nice of Rich to share the image. Thanks, JackPosted : Jun 17, 2014 08:49
