Jon Agee on Life on Mars

agee_life on marsIn our January/February 2017 issue, our editors asked author/illustrator Jon Agee about parallels between his 2015 BGHB Honor book It's Only Stanley and his latest, Life on Mars. Read the full starred review.

Horn Book editors: Is this the same (out-of-this) world as It’s Only Stanley?

Jon Agee: Yes, sort of. Both books are about characters who travel to outer space to find something important. For Stanley that is love, and in order to reach it, he must convert a tall Victorian house into a spaceship. In Life on Mars, the young astronaut is simply looking for a sign of life. Something with an appetite. That’s why he has brought along a gift of chocolate cupcakes.
