In honor of our centennial, we asked interns from over the years to share their reminiscences.
I was both an editorial and design intern at the Horn Book in the fall of 2012. It was my last internship before graduating from Emerson College as well as before I started a full-time job in book publishing.

I was both an editorial and design intern at the Horn Book in the fall of 2012. It was my last internship before graduating from Emerson College as well as before I started a full-time job in book publishing. The editorial internship taught me a lot about metadata and data input, along with just how many books all children’s publishers put out over the span of several months (so many boxes to open!). As a design intern, I learned a lot about what makes for good layout when configuring text for The Horn Book Magazine. I took all this experience with me into a production editorial role, where metadata and digestible, proper book layout play major roles in the day-to-day of my job. I’ve only worked for one publisher after I graduated, and my time with the Horn Book also left me with the reminder of how many great books from across the industry are available for kids of all ages.
