Horn Book Reminiscences: The Joy of Books

In honor of our centennial, we asked interns from over the years to share their reminiscences.

As an intern at the Horn Book, I was immersed in the world of children’s books. I remember sitting in on staff meetings where books were passed around and discussed by the group. Everyone shared their thoughts on the merits of illustrations, the relevance of themes, and whether the books would appeal to children.

As a school library teacher for the past nine years I consider the same criteria that I observed during those meetings. Being part of the Horn Book prepared me to evaluate and select books for my library. My time there reinforced my desire to share my love of books with students and for them to read, learn from, and experience the joy of books!
