In honor of our centennial, we asked interns from over the years to share their reminiscences.

I interned at the Horn Book during the summer of 2019, while earning a dual masters in children’s literature and library science at Simmons University. I miss having unfettered access to more ARCs than I knew what to do with! With every box I opened, there was the potential that I’d find a new favorite author or discover a new book coming from a childhood favorite. One of my favorite memories is unboxing Philip Pullman’s The Secret Commonwealth and getting to chat with Roger about my love for His Dark Materials.

Being an intern at The Horn Book taught me that internships are what you make of them. Learning from the editors around me was invaluable. Writing for the blog, Out of the Box, helped prepare me for future work in owned media marketing, publicity, and social media.
