Some years ago, I opined in the Horn Book Magazine that the best kind of book to give came in the form of a gift certificate, but then-publisher Anne Quirk accused me of wimping out. So all right then: just from the above, I’d recommend Little Santa for those who still believe and those who used to; Playtime Rhymes for everybody under six; The Abominables for a family read-aloud; and Giving Thanks for more thoughtful variations on “God’s neat; let’s eat." Editor Emeritus Roger Sutton was editor in chief of The Horn Book, Inc., from 1996-2021. He was previously editor of The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books and a children's and young adult librarian. He received his MA in library science from the University of Chicago in 1982 and a BA from Pitzer College in 1978.
