Picture book month continues

I hope you all caught Barbara Bader's picture essay last Thursday, "Absorbing Pictures and What They Say." It's not to be missed!

Today, we've posted an oldie: Esther Averill's "What Is a Picture Book?" from 1957 in which she discusses the difference between picture books & illustrated books, and the Caldecott Medal's first twenty years. Check it out here.

Robin and I apologize for our lack of new book posts lately. We've both been laid low with a combination of heavy work load and health issues. Worry about houses and family members during the recent storm didn't help, either.

We will both bounce back soon, I promise!

She is the former creative director for The Horn Book, Inc., and has taught children’s literature at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education.
