On Thursday the Horn Book will launch its contribution to Picture Book Month -- which you may or may not be aware of. Last year Dianne de Las Casas came up with
the idea of celebrating PBs with their own month, in part as a response to a 2010 article in the
New York Times that said picture books were on their way out. As if!
We will debut four articles about picture books during the month, one every Thursday -- except Thanksgiving day when we assume you will have other things on your mind. First up will be a terrific new essay by
Barbara Bader comparing similar-but-different images from a few classic picture books. On subsequent Thursdays we will launch pieces by Crescent Dragonwagon, Peter Sís, and Patti Gauch.
Every Monday in November we will upload some pieces from our extensive archives. We're still working on just what to share but we know it will include short musings by illustrators, opinion pieces about sharing picture books with children, and in-depth critical articles.
So mark your calendars and join us!
