Aren't they great?

NOT the Caldecott choices, well, of course them but really: Lolly and Robin. I want to thank them for starting up Calling Caldecott and doing such a nice job of keeping it going and getting it noticed. (On the day of the announcement, the New York Times even linked over here.) And you too, readers: by giving this blog an audience and providing your voices in thoughtful comments you have ensured that this blog will be back this fall to do it All Over Again. I know I speak for L&R when I say I hope you will be back to join us.

Several people have asked if we could keep up our picture book coverage here on hbook.com. Lolly, our web editor Kitty, and I are meeting to figure out some good ways to do this, but I also want to put a plug in for the Horn Book Magazine--I don't think anyone does a better job of picture book coverage and criticism, and you'll find reviews from both our bloggers in those pages. So see you there or see you here!

I agree - there are so many books coming out each month. Why not start talking about some of them now, at least once a month, so we aren't reading frenetically to keep up with Lolly and Robin in the fall. Lolly and Robin - thank you! You did a fantastic job with this blog and I'm waiting eagerly for the next post. And, Mr. Sutton: I do read the Horn Book Magazine, faithfully, from cover to cover - I wouldn't miss it. But this blog is special. There is no competition, only complimentary (and more!) reading. Whatever happens, my thanks to Lolly and Robin, to The Horn Book, and everyone else involved. I'm really getting a lot out of my connection and reading. Sincerely, Allison

Roger, Why wait until fall? I'm suffering from withdrawal and there are already some great picture books on the horizon. Spread the joy! Just a couple per month? Allison Preschool Teacher/Picture Book Reader
