World Adoption Day

Ed. note: Below is Kitty's lovely and moving FB post for World Adoption Day

Before we adopted our kids, we learned about the adoption triad: birth family, baby, and adoptive family. Each part of the triad is forever bonded to the other two, no matter how open or closed the relationship is or how it changes in the future. The bond is forged in loss--at all three points--but reinforced and strengthened by love.

First, though, there’s a birth parent’s leap of faith that someone they’ve never met will love their baby as deeply as they do, will honor that child’s unique gifts, and will nurture their passions. On World Adoption Day (during National Adoption Month), I am profoundly grateful for and humbled by the faith placed in us by our children’s birth mother. Adoption (and parenting) has opened my heart and my mind in ways I never could have imagined. I hope that our kids will always be proud of how our family was formed and proud of their birth mother's bravery and love. I am.
