Throughout the year, we will be celebrating award winners, past and present, with a series of articles, interviews, reminiscences, and more. Look for our coverage both in The Horn Book Magazine and on hbook.com, leading up to our 2017 Awards announcement in May and our special fiftieth-anniversary Boston Globe–Horn Book Awards ceremony on October 6th, with The Horn Book at Simmons Colloquium to follow on October 7th.

Patonwalsh_Unleaving We begin with the eminently qualified Gregory Maguire. The author and educator is a longtime Friend of The Horn Book, the bestselling author of Wicked, a co-founder of Children's Literature New England, a 2010 Boston Globe–Horn Book Award judge, and a Boston Globe–Horn Book Award honoree for Egg & Spoon in 2015. In the upcoming March/April 2017 issue of the Magazine, Maguire writes about his deep admiration for Jill Paton Walsh's 1976 Fiction winner Unleaving — and for the author herself.
