Mama Rabbit (from Lobel’s 10 Hungry Rabbits, rev. 1/12) is sick in bed, so, one at a time, the little rabbits bring small items to cheer her up — a cuddly toy, a sweet-smelling flower, a book — all illustrated with vibrant colors in lush gouache and watercolor. Reassuringly, the little rabbits succeed in helping Mama feel all better by the time Papa Rabbit returns with the medicine he has gone to fetch. This reissue, now with an inviting light blue cover, has been “enlarged and refreshed,” making this optimistic story suitable for both intimate one-on-one and group readings.
