National Library Week

It's National Library Week, the American Library Association's celebration of all things library.

This week we are highlighting #LibrarianswithSuperpowers , including Librarian of Congress Dr. Carla Hayden, Book Bike Librarians Ednita Kelly (below) and Liz Phipps Soeiro, and many others.

And because we love you -- here are last year's American Library Association Youth Media Awards speeches -- the Newbery, Caldecott, Coretta Scott King Book Awards, and more -- from the July/August 2020 Horn Book Magazine (cover by Kadir Nelson). And don't forget the Magazine's digital archive is available and free during the COVID-19 crisis.

Even if you can't physically be in one, you can show your appreciation for libraries during #NationalLibraryWeek and every day! Look for the hashtags #NationalLibraryWeek #ILoveLibraries and #ThankYouLibraries -- and do thank your libraries, and your librarians.

Bev Miller

As as a now elderly lady, my love of libraries has continued all my life. In the 1940's & 50's, I was the child of a career Military Officer, & after every move, I immediately found a library, because I knew all my old friends were always to be found in those shelves. The most interesting library in my memory, was run by two retired school teacher sisters who had a real lending library in the front room of their Victorian house.
