달샤베트, or Moon Pops, is such a lovely story, one I feel a deep privilege to have served. A work of translation isn’t just a matter of changing words and languages, it requires almost making a new language, creating a new world. In translating this story, I constantly talked with my two daughters to find the language that works for children, to create a world where 달샤베트 could become moon pops.

We together looked, waited, and listened to find the best words — we even invented words that might convey the spirit of the original. As ever more stories are translated and known to the world, our children can enter fuller, more diversely imaginative spaces and cultures. Thank you so much.
