In the headlong rush to January when the Real Committee meets to choose their winner and honor books, it's time to ask for our final set of mock nominations. We've already asked for your top four choices; now you can name three more.
Time is whizzing by, for us and FOR SURE for the Real Committee. I know it seems like moments ago that we put out a call for a first round of mock nominations, where we asked readers to name their top four choices, but it was in fact a whole month ago. Now we are back, asking for THREE more titles. Each member of the Real Committee must nominate seven books in total; the cumulative list will make up what the committee discusses when they meet (I assume virtually again) in January to choose their winner and honor books.
So, since we are (as ever!) attempting to echo/model the Caldecott process, here's your chance to get the books you champion on the virtual table, into the discussion. It would be extremely helpful if you could drop your three titles here in the comments, even if you see this post elsewhere on social media. It makes it easier for your input to be included and tabulated.
What did our November nominations show? Strong support for Jason Chin's Watercress; Victo Ngai's Wishes; Corey Tabor's Mel Fell; Floyd Cooper's Unspeakable; and the Fan Brothers' It Fell from the Sky, with Christian Robinson's Milo Imagines the World, Evan Turk's The People's Painter, and Shawn Harris's Have You Ever Seen a Flower? in the mix.
But since then we've had a month's worth of posts, and I anticipate seeing later books such as Robinson's Nina and perhaps even Helen Yoon's Off-Limits — maybe a sleeper contender, but you never know! — begin to appear.
Enjoy the process. Thanks in advance to all who participate. Again, please leave your nominations in the comments below.
