The Horn Book, Inc. is now accepting applications for the Spring 2025 internship, which will likely include a combination of remote work and occasional in-person work in the Boston area. Start date is projected as early January 2025 and will run through approximately May or June 2025. The deadline for Spring 2025 applications is November 4, 2024.
Editorial interns posted with The Horn Book, Inc. assist with, in mostly digital formats: managing incoming books, organizing books in the virtual office collection, filing reviews, maintaining the Horn Book database, fact-checking, occasional light typing and proofreading, writing blog posts, and other projects as needed. Interns are encouraged to explore the Horn Book’s content and ask many questions.
The Horn Book, Inc., offers paid internships. Hours may vary according to the needs of the intern and Horn Book staff, but are typically around fifteen to twenty hours per week, at $15 per hour.
Applicants should have a strong interest in children’s literature and should familiarize themselves with the Horn Book’s publications before applying. The Horn Book, Inc. considers applications from potential book reviewers. Candidates should have a thorough knowledge of youth literature, ideally with specific subject or genre expertise, and professional experience working with children and books, along with excellent writing skills. Potential contributors are advised to have a solid familiarity with The Horn Book Magazine before submitting manuscripts. Payment is received upon publication. The magazine does not publish fiction, nor does it publish work by children.
