Our editorial interns are an invaluable help in managing the gazillion books that enter and leave our office, and the gazillion digital books that enter and leave our virtual office. They unpack or upload books, format reviews, and enter books into our database — all while becoming familiar with publishing trends. They fact-check reviews, newsletters, and articles, and sometimes do some writing of their own. They take on oddball projects like poring over back issues to track down an old editorial. Oh, and they usually get free books.
We offer spring, summer, and fall internships. The next application deadline, for spring 2022 internships, is November 1. Internships are paid and are approximately ten hours per week. To apply, send a resume and cover letter to Shoshana Flax (sflax at hbook dot com).

Meanwhile, meet our current editorial intern Bodie, who has already been a huge help to us this fall! Every semester, we ask our interns to tell us a little about themselves. (Our ulterior motive: we want to chat with them about their favorite books!)
Education: I’m currently at Simmons University, studying towards an MA in Children’s Literature and MFA in Writing for Children. I graduated from Wesleyan University with a BA in English and History.
Hometown: Bryn Mawr, PA
Interesting fact: I have performed in readings of every single Shakespeare play (yes, even the weird ones).
Favorite book(s): The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue, The Prince and the Dressmaker, Howl’s Moving Castle, and Good Omens.
Favorite genre(s): I mostly read YA. I love fantasy, historical fiction, graphic novels — but especially anything that will make me laugh.
