Baseball and unicorns

Today is Major League Baseball's Opening Day. The following exchange encapsulates my children's fandoms and their reading interests.

Me: Are they playing at home?

Older Child: Yes, look at their uniforms.

Younger Child: There are unicorns?!

"There are UNICORNS?!" could have been spoken by one of my own grandchildren. Given that the school district my daughters attended, and in which my husband and I live, recently (after a disappointing outcome for a couple of school board seats) told the author of "It's Okay to Be A Unicorn" not to read his book or talk about unicorns or rainbows during an author visit, I love knowing that unicorn love lives on.
