Welcome to The Horn Book Magazine’s Publishers’ Previews, a special advertising supplement that appears in The Horn Book Magazine and allows participating publishers a chance to each highlight a book from its current list. They choose the books; we ask the questions.
The Horn Book has been asking Five Questions of authors and illustrators (and the occasional librarian or publisher) since 2008, when the feature debuted — with Jon Scieszka — in the first issue of Notes from the Horn Book, our monthly e-newsletter about good new books (you can sign up for Notes here). I don’t remember why we fixed on five questions in the first place, but fewer than five, and you risk leaving something out or overgeneralizing; more, and you might find yourself asking about favorite foods. Five questions allow for both seriousness and frivolity without either getting the upper hand.
We hope you will enjoy this preview of some of new titles for young people.
